Product Description

Château Haut-Monplaisir is owned by Cathy and Daniel Fournié.  Cathy took over from her parents in the 1990s and adopted modern viticultural practices (such as leaving the weeds between the rows, de-budding and removing surplus vegetation in the spring) and utilising new oak.  These approaches have lead to impressive improvements in the wines from the property. This wine is made from the best parcels of grapes on the estate.

Region/Terroir:  Cahors

Grapes:  Malbec (100%), 20 -30 year old vines.

Alcohol: 13.5% VOL

Wine making:  Grapes are selected by hand at harvest.  Vinification occurs in open 500 litre barrels, which are also used for ageing.  Full de-stemming, crushing, and pigeage twice daily during maceration for 40 days. Ageing in 500 litre oak barrels. The wine is not filtered or fined.

Cellaring potential:  Will benefit from ageing and acquires considerable complexity in the process (2012-2027)

Our Tasting notes:  This wine showcases classic Malbec from Cahors. The nose is lifted, powerful and complex with typical plum and berry aromas.  A rich, complex, layered palate that blends fruit with mineral and tobacco notes.  Strong but well integrated fine chalky tannins.  Great length and balance. A classic malbec with great character.
